What do you mean by "all natural soap"?
Our soaps have no animal, artificial or chemical substances. The ingredients we use are all plant based. Some companies use the word "natural" to include synthetic fragrances, colorants, and preservatives. We do not use synthetic fragrances, dyes, and preservatives, and wherever we can, we use organically grown products. We use essential oils only to scent our soaps and organic herbs and plant extracts only to color our soaps. The soap base is made from 100% certified organic oils. Our soaps have organic certification under the USDA's National Organic Program.
What percentage of organic grown products do you use in your soap?
Our soap contains a minimum of 85% organic ingredients. Since soap is the result of a chemical process or reaction where most of the organic materials have been transformed, it is all but impossible to go higher than that. The industry continues to debate whether any soap should really be termed 100% organic because of this reaction. We can say that our soaps are made with the purest ingredients we can find.
I've used other natural soaps in the past and they either didn't last or didn't lather. Will yours?
Our soap balances bar hardness for durability, lather quality for stability and "fluffiness", and moisturizing ability. The different fatty acids in the oils we use make these three properties possible. Oh, and it looks and smells great because of the natural herbs and essential oils we use.
Is there glycerin in your soap?
Glycerin is a natural part of the vegetable oils we use to make our herbal soap. Glycerin accounts for about 10% of our soap. Most commercial soap companies remove most of the glycerin from their soaps because they can make good money selling it. They keep marginal amounts of glycerin in their soaps so they can claim it on their labels. And another fact that may interest you, clear "glycerin soaps" contain a sugar-alcohol compound in order to make them transparent. This compound can dry your skin, but the manufacturers will never tell you that.
What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?
Essential oils are pure plant extracts used for aromatherapy and scenting and are more expensive than fragrance oils.. Fragrance oils are synthetically made and very often used in place of essential oils. Be careful of soaps that say "contains essential oils" as opposed to "made with essential oils" or have the words "perfume" or "parfum". They are not natural even though the label may say so. Fragrance oils can irritate sensitive skin and dry out your skin. Essentail oils will not. All of our soaps are made using essential oils and contain no fragrance oils.
Can I use your soap on my sensitive skin?
Most likely yes, although we can not guarantee it. However, keep in mind, most sensitive skins that have adverse reactions to soaps, lotions, etc. are affected by the synthetic ingredients these products contain. Always read your soap label for synthetic ingredients. While most people with sensitive skin can use our scented varieties, we would recommend our Pure & Simple Bar (unsented) for those with extreme skin sensitivities.
Will your soap help sensitive skin conditions such a psoriasis and eczema?
It won't help in the sense of healing your sensitive skin condition, but its all natural ingredients, devoid of any synthetic substances, will minimize your redness and itching. Remember, it is those synthetic substances such as fragrances and other chemical additives that irritate the skin.
Do you use lye in making your soaps?
All soaps are made using lye (sodium hydroxide). Even clear glycerin and liquid soaps are made using lye. Lye is a raw ingredient in a properly formulated soap, but the lye does not remain in the final product you use. All the lye is consumed in the conversion of the raw materials into the final product by natural chemical reactions. If any individual or company tells you their soap is not made with lye, they either don't understand the soap making process or are peddling false information.
Does your soap contain SLS?
No. We do not use SLS, commonly known as sodium laurel sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate. These or other surfactants are found in almost every store brand soap, including many marketed as natural soaps, as well as glycerin soaps, and liquid soaps. Synthetic compounds, these surfactants dry out your skin and, for many people, cause irritation. We produce high quality soaps from organic oils that don't depend on surfactants for lather. Our lather is natural.
